Q: Is acupuncture safe?

A: when performed by a competently trained licensed professional, acupuncture is extremely safe. All licensed acupuncturist today use individually packaged sterile, disposable needles, the there is virtually no chance of infection or contagion.

 

Q: Does acupuncture hurt?

A: Acupuncture needles are typically not much thicker than a hair and their insertion is practically painless. It is nothing like receiving an ordinary injection. In some cases you will not even know the needles are in place.  In other there may be some tingling, warmth, heaviness or a feeling of the Qi moving up and down the channels. Most people find acupuncture extremely relaxing and many fall asleep during treatments.

 

Q: How long are treatments?

A: The initial treatments will last up to an hour and a half.  Each sequential treatment generally last 45 minutes to an 1-hour.

 

Q:  How many treatments will I need?

A: That depends on the severity of the problem. Often some problems can be worked out in a matter of 3-4 sessions.  However if the problems or issues have been long standing, it may take up to 8-10 treatments.  Each person is individual so each treatment is tailored to each individual.

 

Q: What should I expect during my treatments and what should I wear?

A: The following suggestions will help you get the maximum benefit from your treatment. Wear loose clothing, women should not wear one piece dresses and avoid wearing stockings. If you are extremely fatigued, hungry, full, emotionally upset or shortly after sex you will want to avoid treatment.  Patients often experience dramatic results in the first treatment. Some patients experience an immediate total or partial relief of their pain or other symptoms.  This relief may last or some pain may return.  In a few cases, there maybe no immediate relief only to notice the pain diminish over the next couple of days. Generally, you should expect to feel letter.
